Surgical Milestone
The end of 2026 marks a milestone for surgical training in Madagascar. We will see the first 2 PAACS trained surgical residents graduate from the program we first set out to help start back in 2021.
Through the FAIR “Out of the Waiting Room” appeal, donors contributed $250,000 for the surgical training program, and in 2022 Dr. Rado and Dr. Tefy began their rigorous education. At the end of 2026, these two young men will graduate from that program, completing 5 years of surgical training in Madagascar.
Dr. Rado recently completed a 3 month rotation at Kijabe hospital in Kenya with his family. He is a talented upcoming Malagasy surgeon who will help to change the surgical landscape of his country.
While PAACS surgical training often takes place in remote rural hospitals, it is important for surgical residents to see what more developed hospitals, like Kijabe, Kenya, can look like. This also affords new and often unavailable learning opportunities. It is also important for them to gain skills and knowledge they can bring back to their country.
Rado has a particular interest in Urology so in addition to his general surgery training, he has gained skills to help surgically treat urological diseases. SurgeryHelps had the privilege to help support him and his family during his clinical rotation in Kenya.
We also continue to financially support surgical training through the Pan-African Academy of Christian Surgeons training program, in addition to national surgical staff who are teaching trainees like Dr. Rado.
Thank you for partnering with us to bring about surgical change and the hope of the gospel.
